My First Chinese Wedding Ceremony Trip

I should say it’s my first time to attend my Chinese friends’ wedding ceremony although I have been in china for about two years.
When I first got the invitation, I felt so happy for the lovely young couple. Cause my husband and I have known the bride and groom for about 2 years. They really mean a lot to us just like very close friends. At the same time, I felt a little nervous cause I have never been to a Chinese wedding before. I think their traditions are quite different from our Americans.
On the beautiful Sunday, my husband and I got up so early to get dressed for the wedding. He wore a suit and I took my lovely dress. With a nice card, we bought them a box of chocolates. We hope they would like them.
After all the preparation we got to the hotel around 12 am. We were surprised to see people wearing causally. My husband and I felt silly. Cause we wore so official. And nobody give the young couple presents except us. And it’s totally different from us. The host made a speech and the couple kissed and proposed a toast. Then we saw beautiful fireworks. And after the ceremony people ate and toasted for each other. I’m happy to enjoy the wedding but I didn’t feel like to drink. My Chinese friend told me something about Chinese wedding traditions-marriage customs.
For the Chinese people, the purpose of marriage is to continue the ancestral line and to create alliances between two families. As the world changes, Chinese wedding traditions have evolved and changed as well.
On the day of the wedding, the couple will need to serve tea to both parents and family and guests. In return, they will be presented with money placed in red envelopes.
There will be three different dresses for the bride for Chinese wedding traditions. The white dress with veil is worn during the wedding ceremony. The second wedding dress, a traditional Chinese wedding dress is used at the banquet. The last dress is called the bride’s going away dress. This dress is worn before the bride leaves the banquet.
The feast or wedding banquet is an important part during the wedding. Wedding banquets are used to express their grateful to family and friends for the kindness they have shown throughout the years. Most feasts will serve a twelve course meal including delicacies like roasted pig and shark fin soup. Sometimes fried rice and abalone will also be served.
For me I really enjoyed the wedding. The bride wore a white wedding dress and she bought this a month before her wedding. And I thought we people usually bought a thousand dollar wedding dress and we just dress it once. That’s quite a waste of money.
